City Summit meetings for the public scheduled for January-Feburary Residents are invited to attend a series of “Sterling Heights City Summit” meetings in January and February designed to inform residents about the city’s financial status and seek input on city services and programs.

Employee wins national award for customized tool, making job safer Richard Hardin, a 21-year veteran of the Sterling Heights Department of Public Works, has been awarded second place in the American Water Works Association’s 2009 Opflow Gimmicks and Gadgets for a customized tool he made to lift fire hydrants.

Shop With a Cop event is Saturday, Dec. 12 The Sterling Heights Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 118, in cooperation with the Sterling Heights Police Department and Meijer of Sterling Heights, is hosting the 11th annual “Shop with a Cop” event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Meijer on Van Dyke at Metropolitan Parkway.

City offices closed for holiday; trash collection delayed one day City offices in Sterling Heights will be closed on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Drums Alive exercise class available at Senior Center The Sterling Heights Senior Active Life Center is offering the Drums Alive exercise class for anyone, 50 years or over, on Wednesdays, 9 – 10 a.m.  Carmen Miller teaches this class from C.C. Plus, Dance for Fun and Fitness.

DPW begins holiday food/clothing drive The Sterling Heights Department of Public Works will once again assist the needy during the holiday season by sponsoring a one-day clothing drive to benefit the Salvation Army and a 17-day food drive to support the Macomb Food Program.
